Dwarf Fruit Trees Online

Our Nursery Manager, Paul, recently confessed a secret. He just told everyone that last fall he started to carefully prune all the fruit trees we had out in our nursery. He learned this technique from his days as a master gardener in Massachusetts.

"That's why they're so big and bushy, and why they're producing fruit at such a young age," he said with a smile on his face.

Paul was right... these trees are huge! All the fruit trees in our nursery had more branches than usual, which means that they're able to produce more fruit than a normal fruit tree.

"I even give them a quick snip before we send them out... just to make sure that it's perfect. This is also because some of them are so big, they wouldn't fit in the box!"

Plant a Commemorative Obama Tree!

This week at Fast Growing Trees Nursery, we are celebrating the start of the new administration.

Washington has thousands of flowering cherry trees that start to bloom in late winter, brightening our days and giving us hope for the spring ahead. In fact, these pictures were taken during Washington's annual "Flowering Cherry Tree Festival."

The first bloomer is the Okame Cherry, a quick grower with light-pink flowers. The next is the famed Yoshino Cherry, leading up to the grand finale, the double-blooming Kwanzan Cherry. A Weeping Cherry tree also makes a beautiful specimen tree.

Washington, DC starts to pop with spring color as early as February. Bring the pride of Washington to your home!

Regardless of your political party, this tree can really brighten up your winter, year after year, and increase your property value.

No matter who your candidate was, we can all join together to remember how lucky we are to be Americans and in wishing Mr. Obama the very best for the years ahead!

In honor of this week’s inauguration, we are offering a 10% discount on all ornamental Cherry Trees. Just type in the coupon code "president" when placing your order.

Be sure to reserve yours now. Every spring, we get close to selling out. Order your trees to be sent immediately, or give us a call to delay your shipping until spring. Be sure to also check out our other flowering trees online.

Important Fall Planting Techniques

Are you planning to plant some new trees or shrubs this fall? Perhaps some Red Maples to add some fall color, or maybe a Crape Myrtle or two for spring time flowers? It’s a great idea. Fall is the second best time to plant in the year, and those cold temperatures that are about to arrive will allow your trees to go dormant over the winter and thrive optimally in the spring. But as with any time of year, it’s vital to follow proper planting practices, to give your tree the very best start possible. Let’s talk about the ideal way to plant a new tree once you have it and are ready to dig!

Select an area with the proper sun requirements for the tree you have selected. It’s also important to select an area that is well drained and free of any grass or weeds, which can compete with your tree for nutrients. Once you have an area selected, dig a hole that is twice the size of the root ball (both in height and width) to make sure the roots have plenty of room to grow.

Place your tree in the planting hole, making sure it is level and not planted too deeply for good health. The root collar should be level with the ground, not below it. If necessary, backfill the hole a bit to make sure this is a possibility. Once you have your tree positioned, be sure to spread the roots out in the hole so they can break through the soil and grow deeply with ease.

To fill the hole back in, mix 50% native dirt with 50% quality gardening soil or peat moss. Once the hole is filled completely, pat the soil gently and water deeply. Mulch around the tree approximately 2-4 inches for insulation from the winter cold, making sure the mulch does not touch the trunk of the tree.

And you’re done! It’s that simple. Happy fall planting!
